RADIO LISTENING CLUBS URGED TO EMPOWER COMMUNITIES ON GENDER RELATED LAWS

The National Initiative for Civic Education has encouraged members of the Radio Listening Clubs in the northern region to master gender related laws.  NICE Board of Trustee Tawonga Kayira, said this when she presided over a Freeplay Radio distribution exercise during a training on Empower Line project organised  by Gender and Justice Unit in Mzuzu.

In her remarks Kayira said that radio listening club members should strive to take something new to the communities with correct facts on how the Empower Line will help people to access legal services and information.

“You need to be conversant with the gender related laws that you have learnt during this training because the people out there already know about gender violence and should hear new things from you club members.” Trustee Kayira said.

One of the recipients of the freeplay radios Daniel Mataka from Rejoice Radio Listening Club from Likoma District said he was very excited to have received the radios which he said will strengthen the group’s meeting and motivate them to try to eliminate violence in the home.

“The radios that NICE is giving out will assist us  to  give information to the people through programmes that we will be doing with other partners  like community radios in our areas.” Mataka went on to say that the radio will   motivate the members to meet and work towards popularising the Empower Line project and the Toll free line.

Speaking earlier Katherine Chibambo  Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at Gender and Justice Unit said, the Empower Line Project seeks to empower people on how they can access legal literacy. Chibambo went on to say that as an organisation, GJU is excited to work with NICE through its national wide structure.
