Speaking when he officially opened the workshop, NICE Executive Director Gray Kalindekafe highlighted the importance of having well trained and informed electoral observers whose electoral observation and monitoring competence highly influences the legitimacy of elections. Kalindekafe urged all election observers to be non-partisan and follow the election observation code of conduct during the elections.

NICE together with its developmental partners UNDP, COMESA, UN WOMEN, EU, OXFAM and other local organisations is working towards having a free and fair credible elections that support good governance and citizen participation.
