NICE intensifies women empowerment drive
The National Initiative for Civic Education NICE, recently trained gender technical working groups in the districts of Salima Karonga and Neno. As the country is expected to hold general elections, the Trust through the Nthawi Yawo project has produced a schools training manual and oriented the Technical working groups who would in return impart to the knowledge to female aspirants.
Speaking at the training in Salima NICE’s Executive Director, Mr Gray Kalindekafe said, NICE is pleased to contribute to the empowerment of women and young women in politics at a time women representation is still on a low in Malawi political circles.
“As we are all aware the Salima has no female parliamentary and so is the case in Neno and Karonga. It is our hope that the training manual will go miles to give the women on a number of issues including , public speaking skills, resource mobilisation and many other skills.” Kalindekafe said.
One of the participants media Jean Chilombo said the media also should play a big part in making sure women aspirants receive good media coverage in making sure that their agenda are known to everybody there by increasing their chances of making it during elections.
The Nthawi Yawo Project is funded by UNDP and NICE has partnered with the Centre for Civil Society Strengthening. The project is being implemented in the districts of Salima Neno and Karonga.
