NICE keeps eye on polls

In contributing to good governance and credibility of elections in Malawi, NICE has again hosted the Election Situation Room for the March 17, 2026, By-Election. The Electoral Situation Room (ESR) uses Masoathu early warning digital platform to ensure there is credibility in all this process. The NICE Masoathu platform acts like a “digital eye and alert system” during elections as our dedicated volunteers who are now roving observers watch what is happening on the ground and they record and track incidences. This helps authorities respond quickly to issues in real time.

Through this platform, trained volunteers deployed as roving observers systematically capture, document, and transmit incidents from the field, enabling timely response by relevant authorities

This initiative is happening with the support of the European Union (EU), the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the Governments of Ireland and Norway, and the United States Embassy in Malawi through the Malawi Electoral Support Project (MESP) implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
