NICE OBSERVES MOZAMBIQUE ELECTIONS
NICE as a civic education organisation mandated to contribute to good governance and democracy, went on an international elections observation trip in neighbouring Mozambique. Through the international elections observation,NICE is expected learn lessons and best practices as Malawi is going towards the 2025 General Election in September.
Derex Souza NICE’s Civic Education Programmes Officer said, observing elections is crucial as it helps to promote democratic values and human rights and ensures that the election process
‘By observing elections, international organizations and independent observers can provide an impartial assessment of the electoral process, which can help to build trust and confidence in the outcome.’ Souza said.
Souza went on to say that observing elections in a neighbouring country is essential for promotion of democracy, transparency, and accountability as it also helps to build public confidence in the electoral process and the outcome.
Mozambique went to the polls to elect a president and members of parliament. NICE in May 2024 also went on an international elections observation mission in South Africa where a number of lessons were observed and shared with the electoral stakeholders in Lilongwe in August.
