NICE TRAINS OBSERVERS FOR BY-ELECTION OBSERVATION

In preparation for the upcoming by-elections, National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust Malawi, in partnership with UNDP Malawi through the Malawi Electoral Support Project (MESP), conducted training for observers of different wards and constituencies scheduled for the by-elections on March 17, 2026.The training equipped election observers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively monitor the electoral process, ensuring that the by-elections are conducted in a transparent and peaceful manner.

Participants were oriented on roles and responsibilities of observers, electoral guidelines, reporting procedures, and the importance of upholding integrity and impartiality throughout the observation 

Speaking during the training, Director of Programs at NICE Trust Mr Henry Mwale emphasised the critical role observers play in safeguarding the democratic process. The director encouraged participants to remain professional, objective, and committed to upholding electoral integrity throughout the observation period 

Through this collaboration,  NICE TRUST and UNDP continue to strengthen Civic Participation and promote democratic values by empowering citizens to actively contribute to free, fair, and credible elections.

With the support of the European Union (EU), the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the Governments of Ireland and Norway, and the United States Embassy in Malawi, MESP continues to strengthen democratic processes.
