According to the Articles of incorporation, the custodian of the organization is an independent 11-member Board of Trustees, eight of whom are appointed through an open, participatory and transparent process in accordance with the Constitution. The other three are ex-officials from the Ministry of Civic Education and National Unity, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Malawi Human Rights Commission. The tenure of office for the Board of Trustees is three years. The Board of Trustees’ mandate is to provide overall policy guidance and direction and to be the custodian of every property that NICE has. The day to day running of activities is done by the Secretariat which is headed by the Executive Director who is supported by managers and professional staff. The Secretariat is further supported by through Regional and district officers in all the twenty-eight districts of Malawi. Below is the organizational structure:
